"Because I can. Because I want to," the other replied, without hesitation.
"Is it fun? Is it competition?" the first woman pressed on, quizzical look upon her face.
"It is not fun. But it IS competition. With myself," the other answered, thoughtfully.
And so it goes.... those who run know their reasons. Those who do not run continue to wonder why runners do what we do, and oftentimes, wish they could find that place that pushes us to go one more lap, one more mile, one more hill..... OR, to take that first step that is the toughest.....
It's been a quiet week in my bloggie world, but a very active week in my training world, a quiet time of reflection and attention to purpose..... :)
My Thankful Three
Today, I am thankful for:
- Taking the first step last November
- Finding that place that pushes me further, and wanting to run
- The courage to work through running in the dark
Happy running, friends,
Robin

Excellent post! Congrats to you for taking that first step... isn't it great to see how far you've come since that first day?!?!
COURAGE is right, I would not be able to run in the dark, I am a BIG chicken in the day light..
You know it is amazing how my running will end up being the THING that people talk about when I am around. People have questions...but mostly it seems that they feel the need to come up with excuses as to why they can't run like me. I don't need to hear other people's excuses....it is not like I am running to rub it in their faces... Humans are a funny animal... I wonder if the Turtles have the same conversation.. "So I saw you were basking on a log today." Shelly.. "Why yes I do it daily, it is good for the Shell." LOL
Sometimes it seems people are jealous because of my running. I think that is because I'm committed, I run three times a week while most of them don't workout at all.
It does't bother me: I'm running for me and am proud each time I get a little further.
I love your new pic on your site by the way.
I am new to running and still have frustrations and some days I still wonder why I do it, and why I love it so much!
Kudos to you for taking control of your life!
I am training for my first 10K in November and my first half marathon in Decmeber!! I am also in Central Florida and I just LOVE to meet new bloggy runner friends in my area!!
Thanks for cruising over to my blog today!!
Running in the dark is not my cup of joe! It creeps me out, expecially since we all know I run with NOTHING! I should get some mace.
running is so much more than just running for me. It seems to be what keeps me going. It isn't even hard anymore to say, "no, sorry I can't go out tonight. I am paying a sitter to be at my house at 5 AM so I can do a race." They look at me like I am crazy but they know it is just me. It is what I do. I like it that way and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Great job, almost 1 year ago that you took that first step huh? Many don't find what they are looking for in running right away and they give up. You and I, and all the other runners out there, know that good things come to those who are patient. Running is like a marriage, it gets better with time. ;)
