I signed up for Daily Mile! Haven't decided on my mileage goals yet, though. :)

I'm ready - sounds like fun! I started with the couch to 5k program at the end of January 2009, so I guess I'm still pretty much a newbie. My charity of choice would be "Central Florida Susan G Komen for the Cure" and I think I'll make my mileage goal 750 for the year. What a really great idea - looking forward to following everyone's progress on the Daily Mile!!

Count me in...I'm already on Daily Mile....just have to start recording my steps in 2010. I will stick with the 500 goal, however I will strive to surpass it. Not sure on my charity of choice yet...will let you know pronto! Thanks, great idea, good cause...nice!

Woo Hoo! Will post about this on my blog and all that great stuff. I'm sticking with the 500 miles and decided that to make sure and get to my money goal, I'll put a dime for every mile in a jar when I run them. So, gotta go get my jar started.
My charity will be St. Judes.

Christy said...

Ok, I"m going to try the 500 miles. I will start off by walking then transition to running. My charity of choice will be two...the National MS Society and Lymphoma and Leukemia Society.

I stumbled across your blog I think from Tall Mom. I'm pretty sure I was just excited that you were from Florida haha. I love this idea of running to pay it forward. I will also be putting money in a jar right as I do them. Change just lays around anyways and it will be fun to track how much is in the jar. Now I have an excuse to make a project so my jar is pretty.

I'm not sure what I'll be donating to yet, but hopefully I can get that figured out soon.

Hey Everybody!

I'm soooo excited that our new group is underway and you've decided to take the challenge. Thanks for choosing to be part of something that's sure to feel good, inside and out! It's going to be a GREAT year! Invite your friends and let's make this the year that we can pay it forward to many AND logs lots and lots and LOTS of miles.. yay, us! :-)

Kerrie, So glad you'll be running w/ us. I fully expected you to run w/ Tall Mom's 1000+ group this year. Thanks for joining us!

I will be sponsoring myself this year (M, love the idea of dimes in the jar as you go along, so I'm going to borrow that one and put my first 33 cents in for this evening's brief 3.3 miles). One of my charities will be Feeding America/Second Harvest Food Bank. Maybe another? Hubby will be sponsoring me, too. :-)

Libby, welcome to the Turtles blog! I have to see where you are in FL, so I'll check out your blog next. I think the jar-decorating idea is fun! Will set aside a Saturday afternoon to 'make one pretty,' too. :-)

Christy, welcome also! That's awesome that you will make the transition during the year. You'll know when it feels right... just seems to happen. And we'll be with you every step of the way. :-)

Kathy, you progressed so far in '09that 2010 should be an easy 750 for you. :-) I'm glad you'll be doing this with us.

Dawn, We both know you WILL surpass your 500 mark, for sure! You're also coming off a great year, one with lots of new accomplishments (Yay, you!), but I know the knee thing is problematic right now... (mine too, always..yuck!)

Look for "Gotta Feelin'Fridays" so we can check in on the Turtles blog and see how we're feeling, doing, etc...

Hugs to each of you!

I'm in! Unfortunately, it's been so cold and icy here in NY, my beginning miles will have to be on the treadmill, but I'll be out on the road just as soon as the weather allows it!

I am a 52 year old former cough potato, cigarette smoker, and addict. I have been clear from all drugs for 18 years (nicotine 16 years). I live in Mississippi. I took up running in February of 2009 hoping to lose more weight. The weight hasn't come off but I still love the running. I have done a 5K, 10K and the St. Jude 1/2 marathon on December 5, 2009. I am still working on losing the weight. Have at least 50 more pounds to go. I love running but I have a hard time getting out the door. I hope joining the 500 mile club will help me to do more running. I just recently started my own blog and also started reading this blog along with many others. I really want to be a more healthy individual.

Not sure about my charity/good cause yet. Can it be an animal shelter? I love animals and our shelter here is in dire need of help.

I will try the 500 miles. Don't know if I will make it to 500 but it will be fun and healthy trying. Thanks.

Hi, just found your blog through Tall Mom. I'm not going to make her 1000 mile challenge this year but I'm definitely game to shoot for 500. I'm an intermediate runner, I've done 4 half marathons but I'm still pretty pokey. My charity of choice will be an animal rescue, just not sure exactly which one yet. Now I'm off to read some back posts on your blog!

I am all about this!!! I am signed up for Daily Mile but still feeling it out. For now, I use Run Log religiously.

I have been running and participating in triathlon for 2 seasons...2010 is my third and shaping up to be my most challenging yet.

My charity of choice is Back on my Feet.

"Yay" and Welcome to our newest 500 Mile members! I'm sooo excited to be running with you guys this year and paying it forward right alongside you!

Thank you for sharing your very personal stories and your chosen 'good cause(s)' for the year... and yes(!) animals definitely count in my world! Love them! :-)

I've run two days since our 500 Mile challenge began, and look forward to sharing this Friday in Gotta Feelin' Friday - a new addition to the Turtles blog. What will you share with us???

HUGS to each you from Orlando!

I am in and will be running for Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer this year. I am thinking of following Melissa's lead and using coins so it adds up without my noticing.

I will do my best to lead more here..

Hugs!

Who am I:

Former College basketball player turned baby-making, icecream eating, sedentary lifestlye, frustrated with the expanding waistline and shopping in the XXL section I turned to running. With a FULL year of focussed running under my belt I now call myself a RUNNER! I plan to run this twice, or many 3 times..

Hugs to paying it forward..

I'm in! My goal for this year is 600 miles! This will be fun watching everyone reach this 500 mile goal!

Started running about a year ago (still really slow) and set big goals for this year! 600 miles and two half marathons!!

New on the blog scene as well!!

This sounds fun and I just started tracking my mileage this year for the first time! My goal is (eep) 750 miles this year!
I started running in 2008 using the C25K program.
My base run distance is now 5 miles and I do that 3 times a week.

My charity thingie is the Red Cross - and I will donate blood at least 5 times to them in 2010.

I live in upstate NY, so my mileage will be treadmilling for the next few months!

I am in! I am a new runner, ran my first half marathon on November 8, 2009 (OBX). I am supposed to run another half on February 13th, and then Disney Princess and another local one here in Raleigh, NC. My charity of choice would be Susan G Komen. Oh, and right now I am dealing with an injury, but am hopeful my physical therapist will clear me for running next week!

Thanks for organizing!

Robin, I am so happy you found me. I am not sure I can run 500 miles this year...I guess walking counts too, right? And what is the monetary goal? 10 cents a mile? I will probably sponsor myself...not sure I'm ready to enlist others to sponsor me.

I use my nike plus for running, so i know what I've done so far for January.

christinaleigh said...

I want to add more since your post links to us.

I am a mom of 3 who started running in May of 2009. I haven't progressed as much as I would like in my running career, but I have been consistent and found a love for the sport. My kids are my priority and I am not at a point that I can train long distances yet.

I started with couch to 5K. I have lost a lot of weight already and have more to go. I am a heavyweight runner and proud of it. If I can do it, I truly believe anyone can.

I run for me....as a mom of 3, it is one of the few things that I do for me and me alone!

Robin said...

Christinaleigh, YAY to you! Yes, walking definitely counts!!

Found your blog through TallMom.

I find a reason to run in every run. For the first three months of the year I'm 'running for rice' (see my blog) the next 3 months 'running from abuse' then a couple months worth of educational running, then "water4christmas" and finishing the year for St. Jude's.
My goal is to run 1010 miles this year and train for a 30K and 3 1/2 marathons.
We'll see!

This is a great idea and I'd love to join you all. I had set my goal at 1000K this year, so 500 miles is feasible (I hope). I am relatively new at this (I have been running for less than 6 months and no races yet) so I guess I'll see as I go. My charity will be the Old Brewery Mission (homeless shelter).

I also have to manage a chronic illness (severe asthma), so I'm very interested in following your blog. Thanks!

Robin... I am IN and I am READY... 2009 was an incredible year for me. Full of lots of accomplishments and making new goals and actually keeping them!!!
I am already on the Daily Mile and looking forward to the Pay It Forward 500 mile club. I would like to do 500 miles at least as a starter goal. I may have to upgrade later.
My charity is "Make A Wish" it holds a place near and dear to my heart.
I am looking forward to watching everyone's Pay it Forward progress.
Thanks and what an awesome idea!!!!

Glad its not too late to join. I've been lolly-gagging and hadn't signed up yet. Signed up for the dailymile too. I know I can manage 500mi this year. I'll set my goal 800mi for the year.

My charity is the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Great Strides.

Oops forgot to leave a little bio.

I'm a new-ish runner and mother of two sweet girls. After 1st baby decided I need to loose weight & get healthy for her. I was well on my way then baby 2nd came along. My sister (an avid runner) convinced me to run my first half this past Oct. I enjoyed the training so much I decided to do it again but this time with team in training. Stop by my blog if you'd like to read more about it.

Robin said...

Megan,

So glad to meet you, and welcome to the PiF 500+ Mile Club/Challenge! We've got a great group of ladies, most with kiddos, that (I'm pretty sure) totally relate to the baby weight reason to be running... We're glad to have you running w/ us!

Most of us are fairly new runners, too (w/in a year or so - with a few exceptions).

Robin said...

Hey guys!

A BIG, WARM WELCOME (because it turned COLD here in Florida!!) to all of our newest club members. So happy to meet so many new friends.

We're continuing to build a distribution list, so be sure and send your e-mail address if you haven't already... my e-mail is on my profile, so you can send it there without putting it out here for public view. totally up to you.

HUGS and MORE HUGS to each of you!

Don't forget: I've created a group on Daily Mile for us that you are welcome to join, AND ...every Friday on the Turtles blog is our day to share how we're feeling, doing, not doing (LOL)... if you need a nudge, don't be afraid to ask. We'll kick your virtual butt and ask for the same in return when we start slacking. :-)

Any pictures of jars?? Show us on your blog, and feel free to grab the 500! button and details to put on your own blog as well, to show all your readers what you're doing this year.

Who's running the Disney Princess Half or Full Mary in Orlando March 6-7th? I know a few of us are.... Let us know!

Count me in. I started running last summer and was doing pretty well til the cold weather hit. I need motivation, sunny days, and lots of miles! I'm signed up for the Warrior Dash in June and would like to run the same local 5k's I did last year to beat my time on the same courses. Dare I say 500 miles is my goal??? I love the coin idea several of you have mentioned. I'm on the planning committee of our local Relay For Life event so I think that will be my charity. Thanks for the inspiration girls!!!

This sounds like a fun group. My goal for the year is a minimum of 1500 miles. I am doing an 18 week program for marathon training. If at the end I muster up the courage to do the Flying Pig in Cinnci. May 2nd, then YAY and I would have got my "OINK" on! If not, then at least I've increased my miles.
I usually run the Heart Run for the benefit of the American Heart Association.
I would like to know of any runs for The Humane Society, animal causes, etc. as I am a Vegetarian (Pescatarian really) and love all fury critters.

Caitlin said...

I'd love to join the club! My mileage goal for 2010 is 800! Lofty goal for me, considering I am a slightly new runner and have a hard time following through with my plans!

I'm working on that, though, and I'm signing up for a half-marathon in August. I'd love any support I could get!

I don't have a specific charity to run for, but I'd like to run in honor of my Grandpa Jack, who passed away in May '09 from brain cancer.

I'm new to your blog, but I'm excited for this challenge! Thanks for putting this on, and I look forward to reading your blog!

Robin said...

Hey Caitlin,

Welcome to the club! Glad to meet you! Hopefully, we can help you reach your 800 for the year. :-) We've got lots of newer runners as well as seasoned triathletes running with us, all with a purpose and 'doing good' for others.

I'm so sorry to hear of your Grandpa Jack's passing. Sounds like he was very special to you. I had a Grandpa Jack, too. He passed away a few yrs ago, and I think of him often. Is there an organization that would benefit from you honoring him? Our club memebers are all paying it forward with sponsorship (10 cents/mile) in conjunction with their mileage goals this year (and many of us are even sponsoring ourselves, throwing our dimes in a jar for each mile we run each week.)

Again, welcome to the club and to the Turtles blog... so glad to meet you!

Which Half Marathon are planning for in August? Be sure to send your race info to me once you've registered... I'll include it in my weekly Thursday shout-outs the week before your big event.

Robin said...

Janet and AppleC,

Glad you will be running with us this year! :-) Be sure to send your race info for my weekly Thursday shout-outs. if you'd like.

AppleC, I recently saw an ad for the Flying Pig, and thought it would be amazingly fun!!! I believe there's a 1/2 also? That's where my 'oinking' would start/end! LOL I don't think I can do it this year ($$). Bummer b/c it sounds really FUN. So I'm thinking next year for sure! Keep us posted on your progress! Excited to hear if you decide to go for it!!

I've decided to Pay it Forward 500 mile club for the American Heart Association in honor of my Mom. I'll have to get working on my jar but I'll put in a quarter for every mile. I'm already on Daily Mile but how do I find the group?

I started running in Jan of 09 and have run 4 *5k's and 2 8k's. I will be running the Bank of American Shamrock Shuffle 8k in March and am contemplating the Chicago Marathon in October.
I also have a blog http://babyweightmyfatass.blogspot.com/
Thank you for being inspiring!

A little about yourself: Live in Mexico, ran last year off and on, training for early winter 2010 marathon (but haven't picked one yet)

Your charity/good-cause group of choice for 2010: I'm thinking Angel Notion, a local charity

Your mileage goal for 2010 if more than 500: 1010

Robin said...

I love this idea! I hope it's not too late to join in the fun. I have been looking for a way to give my running some additional purpose. I also saw a story in my local newspaper about The Parker Reese Foundation that touched my heart. I don't have any direct experience with the condition (congenital diaphragmatic hernia) but I do have a little boy. As a parent I want all parents to have access to the care they need for their children.

I started running a little over a year ago with the help of the C25K program. I live in the Raleigh, NC area and am training for a half marathon.

I also love the jar idea. I hope I can get some friends and family to sponsor me as well!

Alison said...

Better late than never, I'm in. I'm a new runner, I started Couch to 5k on January 3rd, so I'm in my 5th week and I just completed a 5k today, mixed walking and running. I started running to kick up my weightloss, when I hit walking 6 miles a day I figured I needed something new to get me going again (52 pounds in 2009, 50ish to go).

I love the dime in a jar idea and since I have my mileage back to January I'm going to add that in too, more money for hopelink that way. My goal is 500 miles. Thanks for a great challenge that is achievable but still requires work.

Robin said...

Alison,

So glad you've joined us! Congrats on completing your first 5K.. what an awesome milestone!
