Question:
What r-u-n-s while you run?
Running, I have found in recent months, provides a venue for experiences that one may or may not choose to share with others. Sometimes, as they are happening, I wonder to myself, "Does this happen to other runners, and how do they deal with it?" Sometimes, I think about things that could happen while I'm running - things related to the body and all its marvelous workings - and I wonder, "How would I deal with it?" The long run, in particular, lends itself to these revelations and ruminations - sometimes, at the same time!
So, when I opened recent e-mail from active.com, and found a short article on the subject, I was thrilled. Well, I was intrigued, really - (okay, the 12 yr-old in me was peeking out!) - by the title - The 6 Grossest Things About Running - and thought, "Hmmmm... I wonder which 6 the author is writing about," and then thought, "Finally, answers to my questions!" Last thought: "Wonder if anyone else is wondering?
If you are, then read on, fellow running friend. The author compares marathon training/long runs to childbirth. See if you relate to these experiences OR have now been enlightened. Either way, it's an eye opener!
Then, sign up for the active.com newsletter, if you don't already receive it... always a good read.
Happy running, friends....

Great article. I have given birth to four children . . . end of story! :)
I signed up for the e-mails. Thanks for the link and idea.
happy day!
Great article and I cannot even imagine running during some of what she described. Gross!
That is a great article, Robin. And, yes, some of those have happened to me. LOL! (Not as extreme as her examples, though, thank goodness.)
LOVE that article!
I read that too. Great article. Yes, running has got to be one of the nastier sports out there. Can running really be good for you when your body rebels against it so much? LOL
Great article! The only thing that runs when I run is my nose! No matter what temperature it is outside, I always have a runny nose - drives me insane! Thank goodness I don't exert myself enough to have anything else run!
Yeah, I think all the gross "runny" stuff just goes with the territory! Good way to get over being too "girly" right?
Having run for a while, all of those things from the article have happened to me or my husband more than once...I still am not used to it though. Eeeew...vomit is the worst I think.
LOL, great article and I can relate to the runny nose, no matter what, if I run outside my nose runs too.
Ha. I wish I couldn't relate to so much on that list! I think the only thing I have not experienced is the vomit!
It's a relief to hear you're not the only one with the "gross" problems.
Ewwwww ... there are a few things on that list I haven't experienced, thank goodness - I obviously don't run hard or fast enough! LOL
Got to say though, five children and no peeing incidents, yay me ;)
What a revealing article. All the things most of us worry about but keep the silence.
I've heard of some of those things but thankfully, have not witnessed.
I think I will maintain my even pace and hopefully keep the fluids within.
Great article, thanks for sharing!
My nose is a faucet when I run and it drives me insane.
I have experienced some of the other ones, but not all. I now have an explanation for one of them! Learned something new today!
