Gotta Feelin' Friday, Week 13 ~ Racing, Training, or Recovering This Weekend??

How are you feeling this week?

What's on your mind?
How are your goals coming along?

Challenges or triumphs to share?
Training ideas, thoughts, suggestions, questions, tips.....?

The Turtle Runner found a whole new meaning
for "Spring Break" this week.....

Nope, that's not a ski boot; that would be much better!

Seems I earned not only 'bling' at the Disney Princess Half Marathon,
but also a small stress fracture in the top of my foot.

No pain. No soreness.
Just a bruise that looked like this....

The black toenail is my badge of honor and didn't worry me,
but the dime-size bruise near my third toe did.
Being diabetic, anything weird on my feet is cause for concern.
The bruise didn't hurt until the doc pressed firmly on it.
W-O-W!

X-rays confirmed a tiny stress fracture in my
3rd metatarsal (apparently).
Doc was going to put me in a hard cast....
Noooooo!!!!!!

But then said,
"Since you're diabetic, your skin needs to breathe."
Say it ain't so! For once,
being diabetic was a good thing!

Instead, I got fitted for a lovely orthotic brace
that immobilizes my foot and must be worn
all hours except bathing and sleeping.

NO: running, walking, or breathing
(okay, just feels that way!)
x 2 (very long!) weeks!!
Ugh.
*sigh*

Just when I was getting back in training mode after
being sick most of February, then a little
downtime after my first half marathon.

The irony is I've run a few times since the half,
including the very morning of my Dr. appt.,
logging 7 miles.
Go figure!

Here's the scoop:
I go back 2 wks from the first visit.
If better, then I get out of this darn thing.
If worse, I get 4 more weeks....
Seriously???

Please send healing vibes to Orlando!!!

I hope everyone had a better week than I did,
found their motivation to get moving,
and looks forward to strong long runs or races this weekend!

BTW:
Last Friday, Michel shared: Here's a recap of the Shamrock Shuffle I did in Chicago last weekend: http://babyweightmyfatass.blogspot.com/  and asked for our input: Let me know what you would have done during mile 3-4 with the pedestrian?

Did anyone get a chance to share their thoughts with her?  I'm heading there now, as it's been an insane week(!) with doctors' appts up the wazoo, and have been wanting to drop in, read her race recap, and see what the heck happened in mile 3-4!  Stop by and see her if you get a chance....

Also, please keep rubber7soul in your thoughts as she deals w/ her little guy needing surgery and needing our good thoughts.  Thanks!!  :-)

Finally, in case you don't know, our friend Amanda, a PiF 500 Mile Club member, is not only an avid runner, but is also getting quite pregnant.  Her recent post and pics from her baby shower were awesome! Little Lucy is thriving and due fairly soon... stop by and say hi to Mom, if you get a chance! As Moms, many of you guys can relate to this:  she's still running at 30 weeks!!! (I bow down to her!!!!!)  :-)

**Check back this weekend for a product review that you won't want to miss (hint: environmentally friendly, keeps your stuff dry while running, and will be offered in an  upcoming giveaway).

**Also, I'm looking for your creativity AND your friends.... less than 24 hours left in the Women's Running Magazine giveaway!

Happy running, friends....

Robin

Oh no, seriously? That sucks but at least it's only for 2 weeks (hopefully).

Take care and try to enjoy your time off.

Oh now! I cannot believe your stress fracture! I am so sorry. I am sending healing thoughts your way.

I have to read Michel's post. I was volunteering at the Shamrock, and they sent the volunteers a "thank you" vid and I saw the two tourists cutting through a huge pack of runners. Yikes!

You must be pretty hardcore to break your foot and keep on running! Sorry about the enforced rest; I sure hope it heals in the two weeks so you can get back to doing what you love!

Sorry about your stress fracture. My daughter found out she had two after running her first marathon - no fun at all! Heal fast fast fast!

I'm glad to hear the boot is only for a couple of weeks.

Gee, I feel bad for not staying caught up here! Thanks for commenting on my blog. Mine is probably for the full 8 weeks. I did have two other smaller fractures in the two smaller toes, but those have already healed. I'm very glad to know I'm in good company, and I'm very happy for you that the healing process is going well.

You kind of think they would have invented a more comfy boot by now?

Take care!!!!

I hope your foot heals quickly! Thank you so much for the good thoughts leading up to my son's surgery. You are so sweet!

I hope the doc says you can ditch the boot after 2 weeks!

Hugs from NC!
