Mindful Monday: I Could Never Do That
People often say to me,
"I could never do that..."
and I ask
"Why not?"
I sometimes say it, too ~ about things that seem completely out of my reach: running a mile, running 3 miles, running a half marathon! Completing an ultra??
finishing my first book (or two!).....
finally taking the leap to full-time freelance/consulting work....
You name it.
You (and I) can do it!
But I'm always trying to figure out why I feel that way and how to overcome those "Oh, I could never...." moments. (Easier said than done, right??)
What is it that stops you from doing
what you most want to do?
fear?
self-doubt?
doubts of others?
lack of 'how-to'?
lack of time?
How badly do you want it?
When we acknowledge how important THAT goal is, we can feel it gnawing at us day in and day out, and we're willing to own it, then identify what's stopping us, we can begin to move forward.....
One step, one thought, one idea, one fear, one failure, one success, one 'a-ha' at a time....
Own your journey.
One run, walk, ride, or swim at a time.
What are you waiting for?
Have an amazing Monday, friends!

NYC: Miles of Steps....
Kudos to runners in NYC... braving the cold, ice, sleet, snow, and traffic.
Man! Now THAT is tricky running!
Just returned from a few days in NYC... lots of walking and stairclimbing, even up the ......
(+20 at base) to reach the crown of The Lady herself, The Statue of Liberty.
As we looked upward, we saw this...
Whew!!!
But the climb was worth it. Here's the prize (only 240 ticketed people get to see this view each day, according to the National Parks sign). Consider this my gift to you: I saved YOU climbing the 354 steps! :)
What goes up, must come down.
With ice and slushy snow on the ground, this turtle runner (aka Florida native) found running to be a dicey (and icey!) idea, and opted out (this time).
But lots and lots of steps walking and stairclimbing.... subways, statues, bookstores, you name it...
Looking forward to another NYC trip in the future and running through the city. Okay, and another morning climbing stairs in the Strand. :)
Happy running (and walking), friends....

354 in reverse.....
Oh, our aching knees, hips, and back!!
No. Really.

How do ya'll do it??
