One of the things I like best about blogging and the running community is that people are always willing to share recommendations, likes and dislikes.
I find this immensely helpful, and in return, try to share info, too. So, here are a few of my favorite things, in no particular order, with links to save you time ~ to be updated as I find cool new stuff! :)
FUEL:
Postrun (immediate): Any brand of LF chocolate milk might do, but I prefer organic products and really like this one. It does not have to refrigerated, which is a race day bonus.
Luna Moons for fuel during running:
I call them my running gummy bears ~ organic raw sugar, low sugar/carb content, easy to eat and digest while running. Works well w/ diabetic needs.
Nonmeat foods that are great substitutes: MorningStar Farms has become my go-to food. Have to watch the sodium content in some of the products, but for vegetarians/flexitarians, they are quite tasty.
Breakfast before a long run (sustained energy): isntant oatmeal and crunchy PB (about a TBSPN)
Another favorite pre-long run breakfast is a mini whole wheat bagel (toasted/dry) with a fried egg (1/2 the yolk removed and no butter or oil in the pan), with a slice of LF cheese and a dab of spicy mustard for flavor (no picture yet, but you get the idea)
CLOTHING:
Thorlo (various styles, but Experia are awesome)
C9 by Champion, at Target stores, especially their running skirts: affordable, holds up well, fits true to size
GEAR:
Place to hold my BlackBerry, ID, iPod, etc.... Armpocket
(C9 skirt AND armpocket worn during Disney Princess Half, 3/10)
For aches and pains: Biofreeze
Resources:
I'm admittedly an information junkie, loving to surf the 'Net, read all that I can, and research new content, services, products, and programs. I shop a lot for books and have multiple subscriptions to periodicals. Here are a few of my fave resources.
Runner's World (online and in my mailbox monthly....LOVE this magazine!)
Active.com (lots of good info!)
Runner's Lounge (online running community)
Florida Running & Triathlon (online and magazine)
Women's Running Magazine (online and in my mailbox...a softer view of running)
C25K at coolrunning.com (Couch to 5K beginners' running program)
Galloway Run/Walk/Run training - to stay injury-free
John Bingham, the Penguin Runner, the icon for slower runners :)
Hope you find this list useful. Feel free to share your recommendations or feedback on any of the listed items. Happy running!
